In April I've bought a kit with motor by TeleSystem with the receiver FTA SAT+ X9.1, I'm happy with this kit especially for the easy to setup and configuration!

After a short time I've decided to add a brand new satellite (Express AM 22 at 53.0°E) not included into the factory list... (my wife is from Ukraine and on that there are some Ukrainian channels :-).

Before starting there is something that must be very clear:

I'm available for comments and/or suggestions by email: giangi at gcalzo dot net

So, I've read carefully the manual and I've found out that it's not possible to add a satellite! With a quick search on TeleSystem I have found the program for firmware/configuration backup/restore (SerialTran) and the program for editing the channel list (eIRDEditor).

Very good... I immediately start studying the manuals and I come to two statements:

  1. SerialTran is very easy...
  2. eIRDEditor is more complex and not so easy to use...

I immediately write to the support asking for help on how to add a satellite but I've got a "bad" answer: "We suggest to not use these programs for not damaging your equipment"...

But I work with computers so I've better studied the eIRDEditor help and I started!

Everything fine, but I've found out, by chance and for lucky! that the channel editor "associates" some channels to a different satellite... :-(

An example: NOVY CANAL is on Sirius, I've downloaded the db and on the pc I've seen that this channel has been associated to Amos...

Of course after having uploaded the database (even without any changes!) I cannot seen anymore this channel because the dish motor has moved to the satellite Amos!... :-(

To me looks like something due to the fact that different satellites have transponders with the same name... any way... it's a bug in eIRDEditor...

But I'm not one who gives up easily, I've searched on the web and I've found out that the software used by TeleSystem are the same as those for Strong SRT 6125! (Maybe it's the same receiver re-branded? ...comments are welcome :-)

From Strong's web site I've downloaded a more recent version of both SerialTran and eIRDEditor: the first doesn't have any problems as the previous one, while the second (v1.2.0) has the same problem as the TeleSystem's version (v1.1.8).

NB: actually SerialTran did gave me a little problem: some time it doesn't "synch" and each time I've found out that into  config.ini the parameter PacketLength was trimmed by the last char, so the right value 2048 became 204! It's enough to correct it manually after having closed the program and then restarting it...

Description Updated file Official from TeleSystem Notes
Firmware Backup/restore, SerialTran serialtran36s.zip X9.1_S3.1_ Loader.zip Italian instructions from TeleSystem, pdf
Channels editor, eIRDEditor eIRDEditor1.2.0.zip X9.1_S3.1_Editor_1_1_8.zip
Manuale rev01, pdf Written in Italian...

At the end this is what I did, but It's probably not the best way... :-)

  1. with SerialTran I've made a backup
  2. I have deleted all the saved channels (services)
  3. I've made another backup with SerialTran
  4. I've downloaded the empty configuration with eIRDEditor
  5. since it was empty no channels has been "associated" with a different satellite :-)
  6. I've added the satellite, one transponder and a dummy channel (otherwise the sw doesn't let you upload the database)
  7. I've uploaded the new configuration with eIRDEditor
  8. I've made another backup with SerialTran
  9. I've done a new scan for the satellites I needed

...of course I've lost all my favorites and I've spent an afternoon to re-arrange the channel list "as I like" :-)
